WELCOME TO PISMO BEACHPismo has been blessed with an abundance of wildlife. Almost everyone knows about the famous Pismo Clams. Although they have pretty much disappeared from the scene, clamming is still popular. Lately the wildlife focus has been
turned toward our butterfly grove. It turns out that one of the most spectacular Monarch Butterfly Groves in the country is on our southern boundary. Of course we have a bounty of water bound friends - Whales, Otters, Elephant Seals, etc. just offshore.The "Butterfly Trees" of Pismo Beach are one of our most beloved attractions. From late October through February, thousands of colorful Monarch butterflies cluster in the limbs of
Eucalyptus and Monterey Pines in the area, giving the appearance of yellow and orange leaves. They travel over the Sierra Mountains and west of the Rockies. Some come from as far away as Canada to escape the colder temperatures of the north. .Annually our wee-winged most popular visitors make their return migration to Pismo Beach State
Park. The Monarchs annually return in November and stay through February. The Pismo Beach habitat is believed to be the largest in the Western United States. It is a wonderful site to behold of huge pods of thousand of colorful butterflies gathered in "their" eucalyptus tree grove. Imagine gliding on an “eco-friendly” state-of-the-art Segway®, meandering along cliff-side pathways with breath-taking views of the Pacific Ocean. Tour includes stops at Dinosaur Caves Park, St. Ann’s Surf Spot and Spyglass Park. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and fresh air of this unique micro-climate. For the more confident Segway® rider or after you’ve experienced The Shell Beach Tour 1, challenge yourself to an expanded tour of the coastline. This tour begins at Sunset Palisades, crossing a rugged trail to the famous “Pirate’s Cove” and continuing on to the quaint village of Avila Beach. Enjoy a warm cup of coffee, a cool refreshing drink or a quick lunch in Avila and return back on the trail from which we came. Your tour guide will be happy to share the points of interest and answer questions along the way.
